Industrial Visit to London 2013

April 24th, 2013

On 11-13th April, GBCM students and faculty members visited the great city of London for the Spring Industrial Visit.

After our arrival, we had the chance to see some of London’s famous streets and historical center. The day concluded with a dinner and guest lecture from the Crown Prince Shwebomin of Burma. In a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere, we discussed many topics related to finance in business, profitability and investment. Students could share their ideas and learn new approaches from real experience that the Prince and faculty members have had.

On Friday 12th April, we visited The Bid shopping channel. Mr. Andrew Collins, Coordinating Producer, welcomed us to the studios and gave a very demonstrative presentation about the type of business, its model and strategy. In order to understand the core values that run this profitable business and the sales approach, we also had the opportunity to see the real studios while live shows were in progress. Producers and staff welcomed us very kindly and presented our students with gifts at the end.

After this wonderful experience at Sit-Up shopping channel, we continued our journey to the next two industrial visits: The Bank of England and Rushes Postproduction Company.

The Bank of England is one of the most important and traditional institutions in the UK. The students visited the facilities and gained an insight into the history and the real value of this organization from an economic and a cultural point of view. On the other hand, Rushes Postproduction situated in Soho is one of the best known companies in Soho for their innovative and creative graphic solutions. They offer a large range of services such as: advertising, conceptual design, animation, special effects, 3D and 2D composing, etc.

Director of Production at Rushes Postproduction, Mr. Carl Grinter, gave the group an introduction to the business and the creative aspects considered for a better product-service delivery. After that we were shown the company and introduced to producers, who showed us videos and samples of their work and explained their approach to meeting client’s needs. This was indeed a very fun and illustrative visit!

Later on, students and faculty gathered for a relaxed evening to celebrate the Spring Industrial Visit.

On Saturday 13th April our trip came to an end with a spectacular tour of London!

We would like to thank the managers and Staff at each of the companies for welcoming us, giving such interesting presentations about their industries and for showing us how business concepts are applied in the real world!
