November 19th, 2011

GBCM students were honoured to be invited to tea by the American Ambassador, Dan Rooney, and his wife at their residence in the Phoenix Park in Dublin, Ireland on November 11th.

Dan Rooney is the 30th ambassador of the United States to Ireland. His father, Art Rooney, was the founder of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mr Rooney was appointed team president in 1975 and was officially given full operational control of the franchise by his father. During his tenure, he has implemented a philosophy and management style that emphasizes open, practical and efficient management. He and his wife have lived at the American Ambassador’s residence in the Pheonix Park in Dublin since 2009.

On arrival at the residence, Mrs Rooney greeted the GBCM group warmly and showed them around her stunningly beautiful home. She then spoke to the group for over an hour on diverse topics such as business communications, family owned companies and the American football. Following afternoon coffee, Mrs Rooney provided the group with a history of the residence and listed the famous visitors who have spent time there.
